Book Details

What if you didn't need a time machine to travel through time? What if you needed no technology at all? Moreover, what if all you needed was the most basic of languages and a guide to show you where you can change from one time and place to another, by simply uttering a word? A young agent for an international trade agency - the narrator - has remained the strong friend of a college professor who studies ancient science. The agent becomes the subject of an assassination attempt, and finds that his professor friend is not surprised. The professor has known all along that there are powerful people who seek the knowledge of the acceleration of time, and of the words that make it useful.

The Timemapper Series

The Acceleration of Time was conceived by the author as a single novel of epic proportions. Started in 1995, it soon became clear that it would be a ponderous tome, indeed, were the author to attempt to develop all of the concepts and touch on the many, many historical events and future possibilities available to the time traveler. The current book is actually four short books with a fifth, the creation of a universe where time does not flow smoothly, laced into the other narratives.

The author feels that the book only touches on major elements of the time-travel fantasy, and looks to the idea of a Timemapper--a special person who can act as a guide to time eddies or portals, if you will--to carry through other adventures in the past and future and through an expansion of the creation myth.

The second story in the series is tentatively titled The Regulation of Time, in which a totalitarian state attempts to control the language used for time travel.
